The year 2008 was the one that gave birth to the American Corner of Constantine: such a step towards establishing the good ties between both. the Algerian and the American partnership was taken by his Excellency Robert Ford, the American ambassador in Algiers, and Professor Abdelhamid Djekoun, the Rector of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1, who inaugurated the Corner on June 15th. With the intention of promoting cooperation and understanding between the United States and Algeria, broad up-to-date information about the U.S., education, life style, culture, literature, politics, legislation, and contemporary issues are all provided and presented regularly through miscellaneous activities. These activities are brought into reality throughout the whole week, morning to afternoon. As a team, we saw an importance to name our diverse activities as following:
- The Writing Center.
- The Graphic Design.
- The Oprah Winphrey Collection.
- Be Yourself.
- Let’s Start Together.
The American Corner of Constantine also was the leader in launching a magazine entitled “FUSION” to enhance creativity among the learners and to reinforce communication between them. To facilitate the learning process and make it more enjoyable, the American Corner of Constantine opens the doors of the library, the projection room, and the internet and the reading room for all the members who want to be a part of our small family. Simply put, in the city of bridges, bridging the gaps does not require the slightest effort; it is innate!
The American Corner of Constantine hosts many programs. These programs shed light on many creative ideas in order to increase the cultural scope of the students as well as the tutors. Meaning, the American Corner opens the space for extra activities that aim at making the members culturally aware of other cultures but with working, at the same time, on their critical thinking. Moreover, to be more specific, any student or teacher, who thinks s/he is capable of presenting any interesting information or ideas, is welcomed; all what s/he has to do is to get in touch with the American Corner administrators to have an appointment and make sure that the activity is such an inspiring one for all of our members.
These activities embody many subjects presented by very good volunteers who have the ambition and the passion to share with the others and make learning new things an unforgettable experience. We always make sure that our activities are quite educational, cultivating, and fun at the same time. The following is a list of our creative activities:
• American Culture
• English Language Learning
• Conversation Cafe
• Conference/Debate
• Kids Club
• Games
• English Club
• Music Club
• Writing Classes
• Book Discussion
• Movie screening
• Allumni Programs
